Quick Start Workflow

Install & Load

Clone the promptcheat repo and load it via chrome://extensions → Load unpacked. Visit ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini to activate the panel.

Works on any Chromium browser.

Create Your Library

Click the extension icon, choose New Prompt, and add a title, category, tags, and variables like $SELECTION. Saving instantly syncs to the floating sidebar.

Use categories for teams, projects, or deliverables.

Insert with One Click

Open the panel with Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + P, search, and press the copy icon. Prompts paste directly into the AI chat box or clipboard.

Use usage counts to surface favorites.

  • Popup Library

    Access from any tab to add, edit, delete, or toggle cloud sync per prompt. Tooltips show last updated timestamps.

    Appears on supported AI pages with keyword search, category and tag chips, usage counters, and quick copy.

  • Keyboard Shortcuts

    Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + P toggles the panel, Esc closes it instantly.

Import & Export JSON

  • Use Export Data in the popup to download prompt-library-YYYY-MM-DD.json.
  • Choose Import Data to merge backups; no prompts are overwritten.
  • Schedule weekly exports or anytime you add >10 prompts.

Cloud Sync Strategy

  • Enable the sync toggle in the popup to activate Chrome Sync (100KB limit).
  • Mark must-have prompts with the ☁️ button so they are prioritized when storage is tight.
  • Use Sync Now for force pushes after bulk edits or imports.

Power Tips

Keyboard & Variables

  • Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + P opens/closes the library anywhere; Esc hides it without switching tabs.
  • Use built-in variables like $SELECTION and $CURRENT_FILE to capture highlighted text or entire files.
  • Create custom placeholders ($TONE, $AUDIENCE) to prompt for inputs when inserting.
  • Duplicate prompts per language and filter by tags such as Spanish or Legal.
